When the .NET generic extension was initially introduced in 1985, together with the first domains on the Internet, it was intended to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure firms. Because there were no specific restrictions about the usage of the top-level domain, though, .NET domains were reserved and used for diverse purposes and by lots of people. This domain extension is a great substitution for .COM, especially if the desired domain with the latter TLD is not available for registration.

You can easily correct the WHOIS info of the domain through your Control Panel, or, if you don't wish this information to be visible at all, you can order a Whois Privacy Protection service, so nobody will be able to get your true contact details.

The .NET top-level extension supports internationalized names, so you can select if you want to aim at a certain country or area using a domain name in the regional language, or the global web community – using a generic English name.
